Substance bake mesh maps
Web9 Oct 2024 · When I import my model as an FBX from Blender, I learned that before starting to do anything you should bake the mesh. So, I baked the mesh, unchecked the normal and ID. But then (I suppose it's Substance) adds some weird triangles on the mesh. I tried to check if the problem lies within my Blender model, but I can't find any issues there ... WebI'm using Substance Painter to bake all the maps and i exported the mesh in .fbx format from Maya. Settings that i use normally for fbx export: smoothing groups checked, smooth mesh checked, referenced asset content checked, everything else disabled. I also tried exporting with different settings but it didn't change anything.

Nice video! I've been doing something similar except using painter as well as support geo where needed. That's a really good idea though. Also, with the match by mesh name, I'm able to bake a 24K model with ~15 low poly parts without exploding or cage creation. Real real nice and easy.

When I start a new project with an FBX file from blender 2.83 and I then bake the mesh maps the ambient occlusion map texture has a strange pattern as shown in the picture below. The pattern bleeds through tany materils that I apply and smart matterials follow the strange pattern.
WebThen bake all of that to one image. Once you have the image, you can delete the extra copy that you just worked in, and use the one image for the normal map on all the original low-poly meshes. All you'll have to do is go into each mesh and move its UV map the same way you did in the other file. Just place it over the section where it got baked.

Export dae for Second Life and fbx for Painter. Import into Painter, bake, texture, paint, etc. Export texture, normal map, and specular map.
